The 27-year-old joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad last summer and initially became an important part of Mikel Arteta’s squad. His position, however, has come under greater pressure since Bruno Guimaraes arrived.

A report from Sport claims Real Madrid may renew their interest in the Spain international if his opportunities at Arsenal do not improve during the coming months.
Zubimendi had previously been monitored by the Spanish giants before opting to move to the Premier League. Real Madrid continue to admire his ability to control the tempo of matches and contribute in a deeper midfield role.
Arsenal would reportedly seek around €70 million for the midfielder, a figure that would allow them to recover their investment should they agree to his departure.
Questions over Zubimendi’s long-term future have emerged after his limited involvement towards the end of last season. The player is understood to want regular football and could consider his options if his role remains restricted.
Real Madrid have yet to make an offer, and much could depend on how frequently Zubimendi features for Arsenal before the January transfer window opens.
