Six pets were rescued from a burning home in central Phoenix after firefighters used specialist Fido oxygen masks to revive three dogs, while three cats were also brought to safety.
Crews were called to the property near 37th Street and Van Buren Street around midday on Sunday after smoke was seen pouring from the small house. Firefighters searching the building found no people inside, but discovered the animals.
Some of the pets were suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. Firefighters used Fido masks, which are designed to deliver oxygen to animals, to help revive them at the scene.
The Arizona Humane Society took the animals to a nearby veterinary hospital for further treatment. Other pets were described as conscious and were carried outside by firefighters.
Three residents had escaped before emergency crews arrived and were not injured, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. They have been displaced by the blaze, with Community Assistance Programme staff providing help with their immediate needs.
A grandmother was among those forced to leave the property after the fire. Investigators are working to establish what caused the blaze.
