Microsoft Teams and New Outlook are failing to launch or closing unexpectedly on some ARM-based Windows 11 PCs after recent security updates, Microsoft has confirmed.
The problem affects devices running Windows 11 version 24H2 or later, including the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7. It is most likely to affect new or freshly imaged computers that have not yet received updates through the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft said the issue began after Windows security updates released on or after August 11, including update KB5121003. Classic Outlook, Word, Excel and other applications are not currently known to be affected.
Microsoft Teams and New Outlook workaround
The company has advised affected users to update the Auto Super Resolution Package through the Microsoft Store. The package is designed to use artificial intelligence on Copilot+ PCs to improve the smoothness and detail of supported games.
Users should open the Microsoft Store, select Downloads and then choose Check for updates. They should install version 1.0.19.0 or a later release of the Auto Super Resolution Package.
Microsoft has not disclosed what causes the Teams and New Outlook failures. It said engineers are working on a permanent solution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update.
The fault is limited to ARM-based Windows devices, rather than affecting all computers running Windows 11. Microsoft’s release health notice did not indicate that the classic desktop version of Outlook was involved.
