The mothers of the 2026 Little Telethon Stars have been treated to a VIP makeover day at Maurice Meade Karrinyup, giving them a rare opportunity to relax ahead of Telethon weekend.
Miraluna Narsico, Amy McKay and Janelle Street spent Thursday receiving haircuts, colour treatments, styling and makeup after taking part in tailored personal styling sessions earlier in the week.
The women, who devote much of their time to medical appointments, hospital visits and round-the-clock care, were given a chance to step away from their usual responsibilities and focus on themselves.
Ms Narsico’s son, Aidan, lives with Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome. She said the experience had left her feeling transformed.
“I haven’t been pampered like this for a long time,” Ms Narsico said. “I pretty much feel very, very special today, I feel like a new person.”
She was also paired with a professional stylist to choose a new outfit gifted by the centre, allowing her to explore styles beyond her usual choices.
“It’s good to have someone who can actually suggest and help you explore the styles that I haven’t really ventured before,” she said.
Ms McKay said it had taken time to become comfortable with being the focus of attention after years spent concentrating on her daughter Paige, who lives with a rare Pilocytic Astrocytoma.
“I certainly didn’t feel worthy of all the attention when it all began this morning, but I did settle into it,” Ms McKay said.
“As I started to relax, I realised I didn’t have to think of a hundred different things at once while I was sitting here, I just got to sit back and go with the flow.”
Ms Street’s daughter Olivia lives with Collagen VI-related Myopathy. She said the makeover provided a welcome break from her everyday role as a mother.
“It’s been really great just to have a moment of not having to do anything, which doesn’t happen very often,” Ms Street said.
“When you have time to yourself, you’re like, ‘Okay, enjoy every moment,’ but it takes that little bit of time just to be like, ‘Okay, I can switch off mum mode and not worry about children and I can just have a moment for myself.’”
Ms Street changed her red hair for a lighter version of her natural colour and wore new pieces selected during her personal shopping session.
“She really nailed it,” she said. “We’ve all been joking that we’ve got to win Powerball so we can do this like every six weeks.”
With their new looks and refreshed spirits, the three mothers are now preparing to join their children for the fast-paced Telethon weekend.
