Tottenham are interested in Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, although a move for the South Korea international during the January transfer window appears unlikely.
The 29-year-old has found it difficult to secure a regular starting place for the German champions over the past year, prompting interest from Premier League clubs. Tottenham are monitoring his situation as they consider whether further defensive reinforcements may be required.
Tottenham face wait for Kim Min-jae
Bayern are not currently planning to allow Kim to leave midway through the season. Vincent Kompany is understood to want to retain the experienced centre-back while his side competes for major domestic and European honours.
That stance could make it difficult for Tottenham to complete a deal in January, even if they decide to test Bayern’s resolve when the transfer window reopens.
Kim has previously been linked with a move to north London. Jose Mourinho reportedly wanted to sign him for Tottenham in 2020, but the club ultimately did not proceed before the defender continued his career with Fenerbahce.
The South Korean could offer Tottenham experience and proven quality at the highest level if they are able to secure his services in the future.
Tottenham strengthened their central-defensive options during the summer but have continued to struggle at the back this season. Adding another dependable defender could therefore become a priority for Roberto De Zerbi.
Kim may be more attainable next summer, when he is reportedly due to enter the final year of his Bayern contract. Tottenham may have to remain patient before deciding whether to make a formal approach at the end of the campaign.
