President Trump and New York City Mayor Mamdani are expected to meet at Gracie Mansion on Monday, in their first face-to-face meeting in New York City.
The meeting will take place at the official mayoral residence in Manhattan, a city official and the White House confirmed. It will focus on issues affecting New York City and its residents, although no time has been given.
Mr Mamdani has travelled to Washington at least twice to meet Mr Trump at the White House. The two men pledged in November to work together to make the city better and more affordable, and spoke again in February about housing development.
Mr Mamdani has said they remain in contact on a range of issues outside their in-person meetings. Earlier this year, he said he preferred to keep the “frequency and the nature of those conversations private, because that’s the premise of them.”
Their cordial meeting in November 2025 followed a sharply contested mayoral campaign. Mr Mamdani, a democratic socialist, had run for office as a critic of Mr Trump, who strongly opposed him and threatened to arrest and deport him.
