Celtic and Rangers have held discussions with Arsenal over possible January loan moves for teenage prospect Max Dowman, amid reported interest from more than a dozen clubs.
Journalist Ekrem Konur reports that Arsenal could consider sending Dowman out on loan once he turns 17 on December 31. The midfielder is not expected to receive regular first-team football in the short term, making a temporary move an option for the north London club.
Konur said: “Celtic & Rangers held talks with Arsenal over loan move for Max Dowman. Interest – over a dozen clubs contacted Arsenal. Situation – eligible for loan once he turns 17 on Dec 31. Arsenal – open to loan, limited first-team chances short term.”

Dowman is regarded as one of Arsenal’s most promising young players and has already scored three goals for the senior side despite being only 16. He also made enough appearances last season to collect a Premier League winners’ medal.
A move away could give the England youth international the regular first-team experience that is currently difficult to secure at the Emirates Stadium. Celtic and Rangers are understood to be among the clubs exploring the possibility.
Arsenal must nevertheless decide whether developing Dowman away from the club is preferable to increasing his involvement under Mikel Arteta. His performances have led to suggestions that he may already be ready for a greater role.
Arsenal missed out on several attacking targets during the summer, while Bukayo Saka’s fitness has affected his consistency. Those circumstances could create an opportunity for Dowman to feature more often if the club chooses to keep him in the squad.
