One man has died and another is critically injured after a dumpster truck crashed into a bridge support on US 287 in Fort Worth, Texas, causing major damage to the overpass and closing the motorway in both directions.
The collision happened at about 6.13pm on Wednesday, 23 September, near Erath Street, according to the Fort Worth Police Department. The Fort Worth Fire Department said the truck was leaving the highway when it struck several supporting pillars beneath the bridge.
Both occupants were men. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, while the passenger was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The impact broke a concrete support and caused extensive structural damage to the Erath Street overpass. Engineers and transport crews are assessing the bridge, with repairs expected to take days or potentially weeks.
All main lanes of US 287, also known as the Martin Luther King Freeway, were closed in both directions into Thursday. Traffic was being diverted on to service roads while the overpass remained shut.
Southbound motorists were directed off the highway at Berry Street, while northbound traffic was diverted at Miller Street. Officials urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
The identities of the two men had not been released pending notification of their families. Fort Worth police said the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
