A fatal car crash involving car influencer James Wehr has been captured on a dashcam video showing his McLaren veering into a tree and erupting into flames in Irvine, California.
Wehr, 27, and his passenger, 22-year-old Alexis “Lexi” Kramer, were killed in the collision early on Sunday. The footage was recorded from another vehicle and shows Wehr overtaking on the left shortly after traffic lights turned green.
The McLaren appears to accelerate before crossing a wet section of road. Wehr then applies the brakes, causing the car to swerve to the right before it strikes the tree.
The impact sends flames and debris across the road. Orange County firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze, and police found the victims after the smoke had cleared.
Police have said speed was a factor in the fatal crash, although the full circumstances remain under investigation.
Kyle Oldoerp of the Irvine Police Department said the force’s Major Accident Investigation Team had reviewed the video and was carrying out an extensive inquiry.
“Our Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting an extensive investigation into the collision that will take months to complete,” Mr Oldoerp said.
He added: “MAIT Investigators will examine all possible contributing factors to the collision, including roadway and vehicle conditions, the vehicle’s speed, and any factors that may have affected the driver’s operation of the McLaren.”
