A suspected stolen Tesla driver was chased and restrained by bystanders after the vehicle was driven onto the Pacific Beach boardwalk in San Diego and struck a 25-year-old woman.
Video recorded through a bystander’s glasses shows the man leaving the car and running away. The person filming, along with several others, pursued him to a nearby car park, where they held him on the ground until police arrived.
Police had responded after the Tesla’s owner reported it stolen and tracked its location. Officers then chased the vehicle as it entered the boardwalk.
The woman was taken to hospital with critical injuries, including two fractured ribs, two fractured vertebrae and an abdominal laceration requiring stitches. The collision itself is not visible in the footage.
San Diego police identified the driver as Juan Antonio Gonzaba, aged 39. He was suspected of driving under the influence.
