A woman in her 90s has died after being stabbed at a unit in Bondi Beach, New South Wales, with a 47-year-old man arrested at the property.
Emergency services were called to the address in Chambers Avenue at about 5.15pm on Saturday, where paramedics found the woman with significant injuries. She was treated at the scene but could not be saved.
The arrested man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station. Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the woman’s death, and anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
The incident was the second fatal stabbing of a woman in NSW on Saturday. A 23-year-old woman was killed at a home in Kooringal, near Wagga Wagga, earlier the same day.
Australian Femicide Watch founder Sherlee Moody said 51 women had been killed across Australia this year and called for a royal commission into the killing of Australian women and girls. A petition supporting such an inquiry has attracted more than 158,000 signatures.
