A St Clair Shores woman has been ordered to spend 100 weekends in jail after admitting she left the scene when she fatally struck her 76-year-old neighbour while reversing out of a driveway.
Stephanie Holt, 32, was sentenced on Tuesday in Macomb County Circuit Court over the death of Mary Hulswit. She pleaded no contest to failing to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death, a felony carrying a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in prison in Michigan.

Holt will report to Macomb County Jail at 5pm on Friday and serve weekends there for one year. She was also given two years’ probation, ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and attend counselling.
The judge ordered Holt to have no contact with Hulswit’s family. She was given credit for four days already spent in custody after previously posting bond.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said: “No one should ever leave the scene of an injury accident.”
“This defendant will have time to consider her choice of leaving when she should have called for help,” he said, adding that his thoughts remained with Hulswit’s family.
The case began on 1 November 2025, when St Clair Shores police were called to a home near Harper Avenue and 13 Mile Road after a woman was found dead at the end of a driveway.
Investigators alleged that Holt struck Hulswit as she was backing out. Authorities said Holt left the area, drove past the scene later and eventually surrendered to police.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said Hulswit had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Holt was arraigned three days later, with bail set at $100,000 and conditions including GPS monitoring, a ban on returning to the scene and no contact with the victim’s family.
Holt entered her no-contest plea before Judge Jennifer M Faunce in Macomb County Circuit Court. The separate charge of using a motor vehicle to commit a felony was not part of the conviction described in the sentencing report.
