Amazon Australia is recruiting 3,000 seasonal workers at about A$35 an hour as it prepares for the surge in online shopping expected ahead of Christmas.
The company is seeking staff for fulfilment centres and delivery stations across the country, with vacancies available in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Newcastle, the Gold Coast, Gosford and Geelong.
Seasonal employees will help pick, pack and ship customer orders during the busiest part of the retail calendar, including Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days and the Black Friday trading period.
Amazon said previous experience is not required, with on-the-job training provided. The roles are expected to appeal to students looking for work during university breaks, retirees seeking extra income and jobseekers hoping to gain experience in logistics.
Michelle Theophilou, a senior human resources manager at Amazon Australia, said the company was looking for people interested in learning new skills and potentially developing a longer-term career with the business.
“There is no previous experience required as we provide on-the-job training,” she said, adding that the roles were open to people “in between” students and retirees.
Amazon said short-term seasonal employment had provided a pathway into permanent work for some employees. The company has created more than 450 permanent operational roles in Australia this year, alongside the latest seasonal recruitment drive.
Permanent staff benefits include subsidised family health insurance, free life insurance, up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave for eligible full-time employees and an Amazon Prime membership. Amazon also offers skills training and paid tuition through its Career Choice programme.
The company is separately offering thousands of opportunities through Amazon Flex, allowing delivery partners to use their own vehicles to deliver parcels at times that suit them.
Applications for the seasonal positions are now open, with Amazon expecting the additional workforce to support deliveries before and throughout the festive period.
