Google is rolling out a redesign of passes in Google Wallet, giving loyalty cards and boarding passes a full-screen appearance on Android devices.
The update replaces the previous compact card, which sat against a Dynamic Colour background, with a page filled by the pass provider’s primary brand colour. The change follows Google’s overhaul of the Wallet home screen, which introduced search in May.
Important options are now available by scrolling down the pass. Users can call associated telephone numbers, visit the relevant official website and open settings to change a pass nickname or control how it is used.
Those controls were previously found in the three-dot menu. Google has also included a rewind icon in the top-right corner, allowing users to switch back to the old view in full.
The redesigned layout applies to loyalty cards and boarding passes, including passes created manually. Transit cards are not included and continue to use the earlier design.
The visual change creates a more prominent and streamlined presentation, although the use of bright brand colours could make some passes uncomfortable to view in dark surroundings, particularly when travelling at night.
The Google Wallet pass redesign is now understood to be widely available, although access may depend on the version of the app and the timing of the rollout to individual Android devices.
