Anna Faris has responded to Chuck Lorre’s comments about her casting in the television series Mom, saying it “hurts” to read that the showrunner had doubted her in the role.
Lorre wrote in a memoir that he felt vindicated by his initial reluctance to cast Faris as one of the series’ leading actors. Faris left Mom at the end of its seventh season.
“Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming. Of course it hurts,” Faris said in response to the comments.
Lorre has described his “initial reluctance” to cast Faris as having been “in fact, correct”, following her departure from the show. He also said the “mysterious reasons” for her exit after season seven “were not mysterious to anyone on the show”.
Despite her reaction, Faris also expressed gratitude for her time on the series and for the opportunity Lorre had given her.
“Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted. I’m proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years,” she said.
Faris added that she had been sober for a year and a half, after starring in a programme centred on recovery and later experiencing sobriety herself.
“Now I’m healthy, I’m working, and I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time,” she said.
Friends of Faris have also criticised Lorre’s remarks, describing them as “s****y” and pointing to the seven years she devoted to Mom.
