A wind advisory has been issued for Phoenix and large parts of central Arizona, with strong gusts expected from Sunday morning through the afternoon.
The National Weather Service said the advisory will be in force from 8am to 5pm Mountain Standard Time on Sunday, October 11, covering central Phoenix, North Phoenix and Glendale, the East Valley, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and surrounding communities.
Other areas included in the alert are Apache Junction, Queen Creek, Buckeye, Avondale, Cave Creek, New River, Fountain Hills, Gila Bend, Globe and Miami, as well as parts of Pinal and Gila counties.
Forecasters expect gusts of between 30mph and 55mph across parts of the region. The unsettled conditions are linked to the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Rachel combining with a Pacific low-pressure system, according to the National Weather Service office in Phoenix.
The weather system is also expected to bring periods of rain and thunderstorms to Arizona, with conditions likely to remain unsettled as the system moves through the area.
