Bill Harris, one of the men involved in the 1974 kidnapping of Patty Hearst, has died aged 81. He died on September 10 in San Francisco.
Harris was a senior member of the Symbionese Liberation Army, the radical left-wing group that abducted Hearst from her apartment in Berkeley, California.
During her captivity, Hearst was forced to record a message condemning her family. She later appeared to adopt the group’s ideology and took part in its robbery of a San Francisco bank.
Hearst was arrested in 1975 and convicted of bank robbery. She was sentenced to seven years in prison but served about two years before President Jimmy Carter commuted the remainder of her sentence.
President Bill Clinton granted Hearst a full pardon in 2001.
