Friends of a 16-year-old girl who died after being found unresponsive at a home in Elanora Heights, Sydney, have shared photographs and messages online in tribute to her.
The teenager was discovered at the property on Sunday 23 August after emergency services received a concern-for-welfare report. Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
She died in hospital on Tuesday 25 August, according to New South Wales Police.
Police have launched an investigation through the Northern Beaches Police Area Command. No arrests have been made and no charges have been laid.
Reports have linked the death to an alleged choking incident during sexual intercourse, although police have not publicly confirmed the circumstances or the cause of death.
The girl’s school informed parents of her death and appealed to the community to respect the family’s privacy. Its principal also urged students and parents not to speculate or share unverified claims circulating on social media while the investigation continues.
Friends have nevertheless posted tributes featuring images of the teenager and messages remembering her, as the close-knit northern beaches community mourns her death.
Authorities have not released further details about the teenager’s injuries. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
