Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for public help after a woman was raped in one of Bristol’s busiest city centre parks during Sunday morning hours.
The attack is reported to have taken place at Castle Park at around 10am, with emergency services arriving at the scene at 10.32am following concerns raised over the victim’s welfare. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged to continue her recovery at home.
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of rape later that afternoon and remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
Specially trained officers are supporting the victim through what police described as a full investigation led by their serious sexual offences team, Operation Bluestone.
Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Keith Smith said the force’s immediate focus is on supporting the victim, adding that while such incidents are considered rare, a thorough investigation is under way.
Police are now calling on anyone who was in or around Castle Park between 9.30am and 10.30am on Sunday to get in touch, particularly those who may have witnessed anything unusual or suspicious in the area during that window.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101, quoting reference number 5226071688. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
