Chelsea are reportedly in advanced transfer talks to sign Strasbourg winger Gessime Yassine, with the 20-year-old Morocco international said to be nearing a move to London.
Yassine has made a strong start to the Ligue 1 season, recording three goal contributions in his opening six matches. His performances have now prompted Chelsea to step up their interest in the young forward.
Journalist Ekrem Konur reported that the clubs are close to reaching an agreement, as Chelsea continue to pursue emerging players with significant potential.
“Chelsea are very close to signing RC Strasbourg’s 20-year-old talent Gessime Yassine,” Konur posted. “Talks are well advanced, and his move to London is nearing completion. The club plans to continue its strategy of signing high-potential young players.”
Chelsea’s Strasbourg connection
The proposed deal would further strengthen the relationship between Chelsea and Strasbourg, who are both part of the BlueCo group. That link has allowed Chelsea to monitor talent at the French club closely and could give them an advantage in negotiations.
Valentin Barco and Emanuel Emegha both moved to Stamford Bridge this summer after impressing for Strasbourg. It remains unclear whether either player will establish themselves successfully in west London.
Yassine’s long-term prospects are also yet to be established, but Chelsea appear to view him as a player whose value could rise significantly. The club’s recruitment strategy has focused on securing young, high-potential talent, whether or not every signing ultimately becomes a first-team regular.
Chelsea’s links with Strasbourg have also extended beyond player recruitment. Liam Rosenior was appointed by the west London club last season after working at the French side, but was sacked before being replaced by Xabi Alonso this summer.
