Chicago is due to see summerlike warmth return this weekend, with temperatures forecast to reach the low 80s (around 27C) on Saturday, October 10, after several days of sunshine and above-average conditions.
Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 40s and mid-50s Fahrenheit (around 9-13C), with the mildest readings likely in the city and along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Thursday, October 8, should remain mostly clear to partly cloudy, with highs close to 70F (21C). A few sprinkles are possible on Friday, October 9, although most of the Chicago area is expected to stay dry as temperatures rise into the low 70s (around 22C).
The warmest conditions of the forecast period are expected on Saturday, when partly cloudy skies accompany highs in the low 80s. The National Weather Service in Chicago said the highest temperatures were most likely along and south of Interstate 88.
Rain could return on Sunday, October 11, as moisture from Tropical Storm Isaias moves north from the Gulf. The National Weather Service said showers were most likely during the morning near and southeast of Interstate 55, extending towards north-west Indiana.
Forecasters cautioned that Sunday’s temperatures and rainfall will depend on the storm’s precise track. For now, highs are expected to reach the mid-70s (around 24C), with greater cloud cover potentially keeping parts of Chicagoland cooler than on Saturday.
The National Hurricane Center said Isaias was strengthening over the Gulf on Wednesday, with the system expected to track north-eastwards before its remnants move towards the Ohio Valley.
