Cobb County residents will have several opportunities to question police about Flock surveillance cameras, with a series of town hall meetings taking place across the Georgia county.
The discussions are being hosted by the Cobb County Police Department in response to public interest in Flock Safety technology, automated licence plate readers and FUSUS, a public safety information-sharing system.
Cobb County Police Chief Dan Ferrell and senior department leaders are expected to explain how the systems are used, what information they provide and the safeguards in place. Residents will also be able to raise concerns directly with police.
The next meeting will take place on Monday, August 31, at the Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center on Lower Roswell Road in Marietta. A further session is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, at the West Cobb Senior Center on Dallas Highway in Powder Springs.
The final meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 15, at the North Cobb Senior Center in Acworth, inside Kennworth Park.
All three remaining sessions will run from 6.30pm to 8pm. A fourth meeting, at the Milford Recreation Center in Marietta, was held on Thursday, August 27.
Flock cameras use automated licence plate recognition technology to record vehicles and their number plates. Police say the information can assist criminal investigations, while critics have raised questions about privacy, oversight and the potential misuse of the system.
