Dion Spychala, a Milwaukee man convicted of sexually assaulting a cognitively disabled woman, has been arrested after a viewer tip helped US authorities locate him.
Milwaukee police detained the 53-year-old on October 12, according to the US Marshals Service. He had been sought after allegedly breaching the conditions of his parole and disappearing from authorities.
Arrest follows search for Milwaukee fugitive
Spychala was convicted over a 2012 assault involving a woman he met at a bus stop near North and Fifth streets in Milwaukee. Investigators said he used a bus pass to persuade her to leave the area before taking her to an abandoned house, where the assault took place.
After serving his prison sentence, Spychala was released under GPS monitoring, registered as a sex offender and required to report to a parole officer. About a year later, officials said he stopped complying with those conditions and went on the run.
US Marshals had warned that they did not know where Spychala was or what he might be doing. They said he had a criminal history that included arrests linked to armed robbery and firearms.
Authorities said he was believed to have remained in the Milwaukee area and had used several aliases, including “Mac D”, “Big Nose” and “Skiddles”.
Spychala was described as 6ft 1in tall and weighing about 185lb. He has a tattoo spelling “Dion” across the knuckles of his left hand, along with a heart and cross tattoo on his right forearm.
The US Marshals Service said the arrest followed information provided by a member of the public. The agency had previously urged anyone with information about Spychala’s whereabouts to contact its Milwaukee tip line.
