The Atlanta Braves were seven outs from elimination in NLDS Game 4 after the Los Angeles Dodgers moved 3-1 ahead in the seventh inning at Truist Park.
Andy Pagés broke the deadlock with a two-run single, scoring Teoscar Hernández and Tommy Edman after the Dodgers had put runners on base against Atlanta’s bullpen. Kyle Tucker advanced to third as Los Angeles took control of a tense contest.
The Braves had made the stronger start, taking a first-inning lead when Michael Harris II scored on a wild pitch from Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow.
Los Angeles levelled in the second after Max Muncy reached on a fielding error by Atlanta shortstop Mauricio DubĂłn, allowing Shohei Ohtani to score.
Tyler Mahle kept Atlanta in contention with a dominant fourth inning, striking out Will Smith, Ohtani and Hernández in succession. The right-hander also limited the Dodgers to one unearned run before handing the game over to the Braves’ bullpen.
Ozzie Albies briefly threatened to restore Atlanta’s lead with a double, while Hernández remained in the game after crashing into the wall during the Dodgers’ defensive efforts.
Atlanta entered the game needing a victory to force a deciding fifth contest in the best-of-five National League Division Series. The Dodgers had already taken a 2-1 lead in the series after winning Game 3 on Tuesday.
