The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 3-1 in NLDS Game 3 on Tuesday night, moving ahead in the best-of-five series after a disciplined display at Truist Park.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered the performance expected of the reigning World Series MVP, keeping the Braves’ offence under control in a heavyweight pitching duel with Atlanta’s Chris Sale.
The Dodgers broke the deadlock in the fourth inning when Enrique Hernández launched a two-run home run to left field. Freddie Freeman followed two batters later with a solo shot into right-centre, giving Los Angeles a 3-0 advantage.
Atlanta responded in the fifth, with Mauricio Dubón scoring on Drake Baldwin’s groundout to reduce the deficit. The Braves were unable to produce another breakthrough, however, as the Dodgers’ pitching staff protected its lead.
Edwin Díaz was brought in to close the game in the ninth inning, securing the Dodgers’ second victory of the series and leaving them 2-1 ahead with two wins needed to reach the National League Championship Series.
The Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas left the game with an injury in the eighth inning. Game 4 is scheduled to take place at Truist Park on Wednesday, with Atlanta facing elimination.
