A dog in Leawood, Kansas, led a police officer to its owner after finding them on the floor of an open garage, unable to get up.
The incident happened on 17 September, when a Leawood Police Department officer spotted the animal standing in the middle of a residential road with its lead still attached but no owner in sight.
Body-worn camera footage shows the dog barking at the patrol car. The officer initially tried to send it home, but followed when it moved away, covering about half a block to a nearby property.
The animal went up the driveway towards an open garage, where the officer found its owner lying on the floor. Police said the resident had been there for more than three hours.
The officer called for assistance and medical personnel treated the resident, who is now recovering at home.
The department said the dog’s actions had enabled the officer to locate the resident and arrange the help they needed.
A second dog was also seen at the property as the officer approached the garage. The encounter was recorded on body camera and later shared by Leawood police.
