Flooding has left 65 campers stranded at Cave Springs Campground in Oak Creek Canyon, north of Sedona, after rising water and debris blocked the only bridge linking the site to State Route 89A.
The campers have been cut off since Sunday, when heavy rain caused Oak Creek to surge over a low-water crossing. Fallen trees and other debris were left against the bridge, making it unsafe for vehicles to pass.
The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said everyone at the campground was safe and in good condition, with no injuries or medical emergencies reported. Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and National Forest Service personnel were assisting with the response.
Authorities arranged for food and essential supplies to be delivered on Tuesday as the water remained too high for the group to leave safely. Some campers said they had begun rationing food, while others were concerned about dwindling medication supplies.
The bridge cannot be reopened until the floodwater recedes, debris is removed and the crossing has been inspected. Officials had not provided a firm timetable for the campers’ departure.
Cave Springs Campground has been listed as temporarily closed while the flooding continues.
