HGTV stars Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson have been left furious after being targeted by a ‘dangerous’ online scam.
The couple, who previously fronted Married to Real Estate, took to Instagram on Sunday to hit out at ‘fake and malicious’ rumors that had been spreading about them on social media.
In a video, Sherrod, 49, explained: ‘Mike and I wanted to let you know something because we’ve told y’all this for years.Â
‘We’ve been telling you this but folks still want to believe what they want to believe. If you don’t hear it from us first, it didn’t happen. It’s not true.’
She explained that the pair had been targeted by one particular Facebook page that they have since been trying to get taken down.
‘When I say the damage that they are doing and the thousands of people that are believing the stories…Â
‘I mean, literally, my children asked me if I had cancer because the story has traveled so far and wide, and it’s made-up.’
Beyond the claims about her health, the page, which has more than six thousand followers and is listed as being based in Fresno, California, consists of other posts that feature false quotes from Sherrod.

One, that the TV personality described as ‘very harmful,’ falsely alleged that fans had been boycotting Sherrod after she supposedly said children’s cartoons should not feature LGBTQ+ themes.
‘That’s a dangerous, dangerous post, because that’s not true,’ she hit out.Â
The caption of their joint upload read: ‘If folks could just direct their energy and efforts for good…
‘Help us family by going to Facebook and reporting this page and any others as fake and malicious.
‘Thank you. I love you and there is nothing you can do about it.’
It’s been a turbulent time for Sherrod and her husband, 48, who learned last year that their hugely popular show Married to Real Estate was among those shelved by HGTV.
The couple’s program launched in 2022 and followed them as they balanced their personal and professional lives while helping clients in Atlanta, Georgia, land their dream homes.
The show wrapped up its fourth season in May 2025 with the third season pulling in 16.6 million viewers.

At the time, Sherrod claimed that Married to Real Estate had been axed while she and her husband were on vacation.
In a statement that was posted on both of their social media accounts, she said: ‘Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we’re met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with Married to Real Estate.’
‘While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful,’ she continued.
‘Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans. Grateful that our businesses continue to thrive.’
Sherrod and Jackson have continued their work in real estate and home renovations through their company Indigo Road.
