Google has issued a Google Home update aimed at resolving problems with alarms, lists and Google Keep, while giving Gemini for Home a wider range of voice controls for media and smart-home devices.
The changes affect Google smart speakers and displays, where users can now combine separate instructions in a single request. Google says Gemini can interpret a broader selection of commands, allowing people to control entertainment and connected devices more efficiently.
For example, users can ask the assistant to turn off the lights and stop music at the same time, skip a song while switching on outside lights, or disable captions on a video.
The update also addresses problems that had prevented some users from creating or editing alarms and lists. It includes a fix for Google Keep integration, an important change for people who use Nest speakers or displays as alarm clocks and household organisers.
Google Home update improves automation controls
Google is also making changes within the Google Home app. Automations created by third-party applications that are no longer valid should now be removed, helping to clear out unwanted entries.
The automation editor has been reorganised as well. Starters, conditions and actions are now automatically arranged in alphabetical order, which should make larger collections of routines easier to navigate and edit.
The changes form part of Google’s continuing effort to address reliability and usability issues in Gemini for Home, its newer assistant experience for compatible smart speakers and displays.
