Greens senator Jordon Steele-John has taken leave from the party room after seven members called for an investigation into alleged inappropriate comments and concerning behaviour towards women.
The allegations, which have not been proven, span from 2017 to 2025 and were set out in a letter sent to Greens leader David Shoebridge.
Mr Shoebridge said the party would take the claims “extremely seriously” and stressed the importance of an independent complaints process.
“As leader I want to make it clear that the integrity of the complaints process is essential,” he said.
Senator Steele-John requested leave from the party room, a move Mr Shoebridge said he had accepted. The Western Australian senator will also refer the matters outlined in the letter to an independent complaints process.
His office has been contacted for comment.
Senator Steele-John entered parliament in 2017, aged 23. He is the Greens’ spokesperson for disability and mental health and has led a campaign against cuts to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
