Grimes has said her forthcoming AI-inspired album will contain no songs about her former partner Elon Musk, ahead of its planned release in 2027.
The singer, 38, discussed Psy Opera during an appearance on the Swiftologist podcast on Sunday, saying she had deliberately kept her relationship with the technology billionaire out of the project.
“I really didn’t want to write… I just didn’t want any of this to be about Elon,” she said.

Grimes said the album would be released in two parts, with the second described as “100% personal”. Asked whether her personal life felt too high-stakes to discuss openly, she replied: “Not at all. I just… they couldn’t come first.”
She said the album’s focus on artificial intelligence and technology had taken priority, adding: “And I felt like this stuff is very relevant. I sort of wish I had a bit more of the emotions on this side and a bit more computer on the other side. That’s my only regret about this album.”
Explaining the record’s AI inspiration, Grimes said: “It’s almost more of a… like, the AI is a mirror and like looking inward from what it’s showing us about ourselves.”
Psy Opera will be Grimes’s first album in seven years when it is released. She and Musk were first linked after attending the Met Gala together in May 2018 and split in 2022.
The pair share three children: X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl and Techno Mechanicus. Last year, Grimes criticised Musk for taking their eldest son to the White House without her permission, after he began bringing the child with him.
Earlier this year, Grimes also offered an update on co-parenting with Musk and discussed areas on which they disagree.
