Isaac Heeney’s fiancée, Steffie Waters, has removed their engagement announcement from the pinned section of her Instagram account, prompting fresh speculation about the couple’s future as the Sydney Swans scandal continues to unfold.
The post, which remains visible on Waters’ Instagram grid, celebrated the couple’s engagement after Heeney proposed during a holiday in French Polynesia last October. Comments on the announcement have since been disabled.
Waters’ decision to remove the post from its prominent position comes after she was photographed in Noosa last month appearing distressed and without her engagement ring.
The missing ring led to reports that the couple had separated. However, a relative later told the Daily Telegraph that Heeney and Waters remained together, saying they had stayed in contact and had not ended either their relationship or their engagement.
The relative said the ring had been taken to a jeweller after its stone fell out.
Despite that explanation, the latest change to Waters’ social media profile is likely to fuel further questions about whether the engagement remains on track. Heeney has also deleted his Instagram account.
The developments come as the AFL star faces intense scrutiny following an incident at the Pullman Hotel in East Melbourne on August 17, after the Swans’ victory over Essendon.
Victoria Police’s Sexual Crimes Squad is investigating a report of sexual assault at the hotel. Police have said the exact circumstances remain unclear and that no one had been arrested or formally interviewed at the time of their initial statement. The Sydney Swans stressed that the season-ending sanctions were separate from the police inquiry.
