Car influencer James Wehr was cited for speeding more than a year before the fatal crash that killed him in Irvine, California, court records show.
Wehr was stopped in Westminster, several miles from the scene of his death, on February 7, 2025. He was recorded driving a 2017 black Audi at 75mph in a 65mph zone.
Records also show that, in the months before his death, Wehr received citations relating to the Audi, including driving without a front number plate, an expired driving licence and tinted windows.
Wehr, 27, died in Irvine on September 13. His passenger, 22-year-old Alexis “Lexi” Kramer, was also in the vehicle.
Video of the crash appears to show the car sliding on water before Wehr braked and continued into a tree. The 2017 McLaren then erupted in flames.
Wehr’s wife, Emma, hired a lawyer in the days after the crash.
