Justin and Hailey Bieber appeared to share a tense exchange at Finneas O’Connell and Claudia Sulewski’s wedding in California, where the celebrity couple were among a star-studded gathering on Saturday, 29 August.
Images from the celebration showed the pair speaking animatedly in the sunshine at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, with Hailey gesturing emphatically before the couple walked away in opposite directions.
The model appeared to look back at her husband after he moved away, prompting speculation that the conversation had been strained. However, body language expert Judi James said the footage did not necessarily suggest an argument.
“The way that Hailey looks back at her husband as he walks away after their animated conversation gives the impression of tension or drama here,” James told the Daily Mail.
She added that Justin’s “gently hunched posture” and the way his arms hung in front of his torso made him appear “less motivated and less positive”.
But James said Hailey’s hand movements did not appear to be directed at Justin and therefore did not amount to a clear sign of conflict.
A representative for Hailey declined to comment, while a representative for Justin had not responded to requests for comment.
Billie Eilish officiates Finneas wedding
The exchange took place during a private wedding weekend for Grammy-winning musician and producer Finneas and Sulewski, who have been together since 2018.
Billie Eilish officiated the outdoor ceremony for her brother, with their parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell, also attending. The couple’s dogs, Peaches and Moose, were reportedly included in the celebrations. Sulewski wore four Oscar de la Renta looks across the wedding weekend, while guests included Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Emma Chamberlain, Rachel Sennott, Jason Sudeikis and Stassie Karanikolaou. The appearance came as the Biebers prepare to mark their eighth wedding anniversary in September. They married at a New York courthouse on 13 September 2018 before holding a larger ceremony for family and friends the following year.
The couple, who share two-year-old son Jack Blues, celebrated his birthday on 22 August, with Hailey posting a series of photographs and describing him as their “sweet baby”.
In recent years, the pair have also combined their business ventures, including a co-designed fashion collection connected to Justin’s SKYLRK clothing line and collaborative skincare products released through Hailey’s Rhode brand.
