Kim Kardashian donated $50,000 to This Is About Humanity during the organisation’s annual fundraiser in Los Angeles, helping to support families separated and reunited at the US-Mexico border.
The reality star raised her paddle during a live auction at the charity’s eighth annual soiree on Saturday, August 29. The event was held in Brentwood and brought together about 400 supporters, including actor Henry Winkler and singer Katharine McPhee Foster.
This Is About Humanity provides essential supplies, legal assistance and mental health support to families affected by separation, while also funding community programmes and trips to the border.
The organisation was founded in 2018 by Elsa Marie Collins, Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade and Zoe Winkler Reinis, a longtime friend of Kardashian and the daughter of Happy Days star Henry Winkler.
Money raised at the event will support This Is About Humanity’s fund at the International Community Foundation, programmes run by the Immigrant Defenders Law Center and a food relief kitchen serving communities at the border.
The evening also honoured That ’70s Show actor Wilmer Valderrama, who received the organisation’s Humanitarian Award for his longstanding support. He attended with his partner, Amanda Pacheco, and their daughter.
Accepting the award, Valderrama said: “Because when a family is separated, when a kid is sitting in a shelter, when someone needs a meal, a lawyer or someone to talk to, I think it’s pretty simple. People need people.”
Guests were also treated to a culinary showcase led by Michelin-recognised chef Javier Plascencia and sommelier Laura Plascencia, with proceeds helping to fund the charity’s work.
Since its launch, This Is About Humanity has supported families with food, legal services and mental wellness checks, as well as raising awareness of the difficulties faced by separated and reunited families.
