Wladimir Klitschko has asked for a law enforcement investigation into jewellery he believes was pawned by someone previously connected to Hayden Panettiere, according to court documents.
The former boxer said the pawn shop had refused to provide details about the items unless contacted by police. He is concerned the jewellery and other belongings could be sold to third parties before they are recovered.
Klitschko made the request as part of his application to become the legal guardian of Kaya, his daughter with Panettiere. He said recovering the actress’s property could directly affect her daughter’s inheritance.
He is seeking specific authority as guardian to request and approve a law enforcement investigation into property he believes may have been misappropriated.
Klitschko’s filing alleges that a “non-family member previously connected to Hayden” pawned some of her belongings, which he believes included jewellery. The claim has not been proven.
He has also previously alleged that jewellery was missing, that Panettiere’s emails had been accessed and destroyed, and that some property was in police custody while other items had been seized by federal agents.
According to the filing, Panettiere had hired a security company before her death to protect her home and belongings following a “documented concern” that someone had gained unauthorised access. Klitschko said her designer clothes were moved to prevent them from being taken, but he remained concerned that the person might try to obtain them.
The court has not yet ruled on Klitschko’s guardianship application. He already has sole custody of Kaya but says he needs to be appointed guardian in order to assist her with her inheritance from Panettiere’s estate.
Panettiere died on August 16 at the age of 36 from a drug overdose.
