New vision from an optical tracking trial at the MCG has emerged during Lachie Neale’s appeal against his suspension, with the AFL seeking permission to show the footage to the appeals board.
AFL counsel Andrew Woods KC told the hearing that the additional camera footage was discovered on Wednesday afternoon and immediately shared with the Brisbane Lions. It was not available during the original case.
The appeals board must decide whether the material can be admitted as new evidence. It can allow fresh evidence if it could not have been obtained before the initial hearing.
Neale’s counsel, Adrian Anderson, is now making submissions on whether the vision should be shown. He has expressed opposition to its admission.
The footage reportedly makes it difficult to challenge the finding that the contact with Jack Ginnivan was an intentional strike.
Richard Loveridge is chairing the hearing, alongside board members Stephen Jurica and Wayne Henwood.
