Liverpool and Arsenal have suffered a setback in their interest in Michael Olise, with the Bayern Munich winger reportedly more attracted to a move to Real Madrid than a return to the Premier League.
Olise, 24, remains one of Europe’s most sought-after attackers after establishing himself in Germany. Both English clubs have continued to monitor his situation, but his apparent preference for Spain could make any potential move more difficult.
Michael Olise’s Real Madrid preference complicates Liverpool and Arsenal plans
Bayern insider Christian Falk has reported that Olise would favour the possibility of playing in Spain, while stressing that a return to England has not been ruled out entirely.
Liverpool have admired the France international for some time, and his creativity and experience in the Premier League would make him an attractive long-term option on the wing.
Arsenal are also keeping track of developments, particularly his contract negotiations with Bayern. The Gunners are understood to be assessing their options in wide areas after not signing another winger during the summer.
Real Madrid now appear to represent the principal threat to both clubs. Reports in Spain have differed over whether the Spanish giants are prioritising Olise or Erling Haaland, but AS maintains that the Bayern player remains firmly on their radar.
Bayern are attempting to extend Olise’s contract beyond 2029. Discussions over a possible release clause are considered particularly significant, with the German club also seeking to make him one of their highest-paid players.
That leaves Bayern in a strong contractual position, while Olise’s reported preference for Real Madrid could prove just as important as any financial offer from Liverpool or Arsenal.
Neither English club has been completely ruled out, but both may now have to monitor the situation rather than build their transfer plans around the France international.
