Liverpool face a significant injury concern ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City, with Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak both appearing to miss Thursday’s training session.
The forwards returned early from international duty after suffering injuries, and their absence from the main squad session has cast doubt over whether either player will be fit to start at Anfield.
Liverpool Echo chief correspondent Paul Gorst reported the update from the training ground, writing: “Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak are major doubts for Liverpool’s visit from Manchester City after appearing to miss training today.”
Isak picked up a thigh problem while playing for Sweden, while Gakpo suffered an ankle injury during the Netherlands’ match against Serbia.

Concern over Gakpo’s condition increased after he was forced off during the international break. Initial reports suggested the winger could face several weeks out because of possible ligament damage, although the extent of the injury remains unclear.
Iraola had declined earlier this week to rule either player out of Sunday’s fixture, while acknowledging that both had suffered injuries.
Liverpool are already without Hugo Ekitike, who is recovering from an Achilles injury. Gakpo’s potential absence would further reduce their options in the wide areas.
Lewis Koumas is expected to be given the chance to lead the attack. The 20-year-old academy graduate has impressed during recent appearances and produced a series of strong performances for Wales during the international break.
Summer signing Bradley Barcola and young winger Víctor Muñoz could also be involved as Liverpool seek to maintain their unbeaten record at Anfield.
