Liverpool are tracking Jules Kounde after Barcelona indicated they would consider significant offers for the France international, with reports in Spain putting their valuation above £60 million.
The 27-year-old’s position at the Camp Nou has changed this season under Hansi Flick, prompting interest from several Premier League clubs. Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with the defender.
Liverpool monitoring Barcelona’s stance on Jules Kounde
Kounde has lost his regular starting place, with Eric Garcia increasingly preferred at right-back. He went three consecutive La Liga matches without appearing before returning to Barcelona’s starting XI against Getafe.
His comeback was notable, as he scored in a 3-0 victory and became the French player with the most appearances in Barcelona’s history.
Barcelona are reportedly prepared to listen to offers exceeding £60 million, equivalent to about €70 million. That figure could prove significant for Liverpool as they assess a defender capable of operating in more than one position.
Kounde can play at right-back or centre-back, offering experience and defensive versatility. His ability to cover both roles is understood to be part of the appeal for Liverpool and Andoni Iraola.
His qualities were praised by former Barcelona manager Xavi when Kounde joined the club. Xavi described him as “quick, aggressive, and corrects a lot of counter-attacking situations and transitions.”
The former manager also said Kounde “will help us a lot”. The defender’s pace, comfort when defending high up the pitch and ability on the ball would suit Iraola’s style.
However, Kounde is not believed to be seeking a move away from Barcelona. He remains under contract until 2030 and wants to regain his place in the team.
Liverpool’s interest is therefore understood to be at the monitoring stage, despite Barcelona’s willingness to consider a fee of more than £60 million.
