A Kenosha man has been charged after an alleged high-speed police chase from Glendale ended in a crash in Fox Point, leaving a one-year-old child injured inside the wrecked vehicle.
Steven Pokorny, 32, is accused of fleeing from officers at speeds of up to 97mph before abandoning the Chevrolet Trax and running from the scene on August 27.
He faces charges including fleeing or eluding an officer causing property damage, first-degree reckless endangerment, child neglect causing bodily harm, child abandonment and obstructing an officer. Prosecutors are also seeking repeat-offender sentence enhancements. Fox Point crash followed Glendale pursuit
The incident began shortly before 3am when a Glendale officer spotted a white 2022 Chevrolet Trax near Bayshore Mall. A check of its temporary Wisconsin registration indicated that the vehicle’s registered owner, Pokorny, was wanted on a felony warrant issued by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated away. The pursuit was later called off after officers lost sight of the car, which crashed shortly afterwards near Boyd Way and Lake Drive in Fox Point. Officers arriving at the scene found the vehicle with smashed windows and deployed airbags. The child was discovered standing barefoot in the back seat on broken glass, with investigators reporting about 20 fresh cuts and further injuries to the head, back and other parts of the body.

Pokorny allegedly fled on foot after the crash. Police from several departments established a perimeter, while a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 tracked him to a nearby residential yard, where he was arrested.
In an interview with detectives, Pokorny denied driving and claimed that a friend had been behind the wheel. He also disputed allegations that he had abandoned the child, saying he had been trying to remove him from the vehicle but could not take him with him, according to the criminal complaint.
Investigators said the passenger-side airbag had not deployed, which court documents state would normally indicate that the seat was unoccupied.
