A man was critically injured during a robbery in west Houston on Wednesday afternoon, with police searching for the suspect involved.
Houston police were called at about 2.30pm after receiving reports of what initially appeared to be a road-rage shooting. A second caller said he was being robbed by a man he knew, who was carrying a club or stick.
Officers found the victim with a head injury and said he had been struck during the incident. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Investigators later concluded that no shooting or road-rage incident had taken place. Police believe the robbery began at a nearby apartment complex before the victim drove to a shopping-centre car park.
Authorities said there was no continuing threat to the wider public in connection with the robbery.
Detectives are seeking CCTV footage and additional witnesses as they work to identify the suspect. No description has yet been released.
The victim’s name has not been disclosed.
