A 63-year-old man has died after suffering a medical episode while driving and crashing into a shop at Bondi Beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
The white Mazda left the road at the intersection of Beach Road and Campbell Parade at about 1.40pm on Tuesday before hitting the front of Luca & Luca, a gelato and matcha bar.
The driver was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died on Tuesday afternoon. No other injuries were reported, although the shopfront was damaged.
Traffic was diverted in the aftermath of the Bondi Beach car crash, with motorists advised to avoid the area.
The neighbouring AC FLO barbershop, owned by footballer Angus Crichton, closed for the afternoon. “We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” a message posted on the business’s social media said.
Crichton is due to switch from rugby league to rugby union with the NSW Waratahs in 2027, after ending his NRL career with the Sydney Roosters’ grand final victory over the Newcastle Knights earlier this month.
