A man was shot multiple times at a petrol station in north-west Atlanta on Tuesday morning, with police later arresting a suspect after tracking the getaway vehicle using licence-plate reader technology.
Officers responding to the shooting at a station on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway found the victim inside the shop. He was alert, conscious and breathing before being taken to a nearby hospital by emergency crews.
Investigators said the gunman fled in a green Ford Econoline van. Police obtained its registration details and located the vehicle travelling south along Peek Road.
The driver allegedly refused to stop when officers attempted to pull him over and continued to an apartment complex at 2591 Etheridge Drive.
Police said the man parked the van, ran into an apartment and attempted to hide. Officers took him into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Deangleo Martez Lewis. Multiple charges are pending as the Atlanta Police Department continues its investigation.
Police have not released the victim’s identity or provided an update on his condition. The motive for the shooting, and whether the two men knew one another, remain unclear.
