Manchester United are considering possible replacements for manager Michael Carrick, with Julian Nagelsmann and Fabian Hurzeler among the names being discussed internally at Old Trafford.
A change is not believed to be imminent, but uncertainty is growing around Carrick after United won only two of their first nine matches of the season. They have also failed to win any of their last five games.
Manchester United candidates emerge amid internal disagreement
According to talkSPORT, senior figures at the club do not appear to agree on who should take over if Carrick is dismissed.
Sporting director Jason Wilcox is understood to favour Brighton manager Hurzeler, while director of recruitment Christopher Vivell would prefer Germany head coach Nagelsmann.
Antonio Conte, who has previously managed Chelsea, Tottenham and Napoli, is also being considered as a potential option.
The differing preferences have created an internal contest over the direction United should take if they decide to make a change. A consensus could still emerge as the process develops, with several candidates currently on the table.
However, Carrick’s position is under increasing pressure despite his appointment as permanent manager only in the summer. The 45-year-old had initially impressed during a spell as interim manager last season, but the campaign has so far proved considerably more difficult.
