The Duchess of Sussex has announced that all net proceeds from sales of her As Ever jams and teas on International Day of the Girl will be donated to the Malala Fund.
Meghan made the announcement after being photographed having afternoon tea with education campaigner Malala Yousafzai at Claridge’s in Mayfair.
Sharing two pictures of the pair hugging and holding hands, Meghan said the donation would amount to “100 per cent of net proceeds from her As Ever jams and teas” from the day.
The Malala Fund works to help girls around the world access free, safe education. Yousafzai, its co-founder, was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman while returning home from school after advocating for girls’ education.
The meeting was Meghan’s first public appearance since she returned to the UK with Prince Harry. The choice of the luxury hotel had prompted speculation about the reason for the gathering.
Meghan also marked the occasion by releasing a £75 charity jumper through a collaboration between the Archewell Foundation, which she runs with Harry, and Moms Offering More, a community initiative supporting single mothers in the US and Canada.
The jumper bears the words “It’s the little things”, which were the last words spoken to one of the initiative’s organisers by her father before his death in 2014. Supporters of Moms Offering More are known as the Mom Army.
Meghan is also expected to begin selling some As Ever products in Britain, including tea, scented candles and bookmarks featuring her handwriting. Her jam will not be sold in the UK because of food import rules, while her “flower sprinkles” will also be unavailable.
Harry and Meghan are due to undertake joint engagements in Nottingham this week, where they are expected to meet three charities. It will be their first joint engagements since returning to live in Britain.
