The Metropolitan Police did not investigate Thomas Markle Sr over child pornography allegations in 2018 and is not currently conducting an inquiry into him, according to reports.
The force is, however, making internal inquiries into claims that its Royalty and Specialist Protection Command passed a disturbing letter about the allegations to his daughter, Meghan Markle.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the force was “aware of media reports” concerning the letter and was “undertaking inquiries internally in an effort to confirm this”.
The claims relate to allegations made against Meghan’s father in 2018. The Metropolitan Police has reportedly not previously investigated him and is not probing the matter now.
Separately, authorities in the Philippines are investigating Thomas Markle Sr after his son, Thomas Markle Jr, claimed he found “hundreds, if not thousands” of alleged child pornography images at his father’s home.
Thomas Markle Sr has denied the allegations, describing them as “bulls***” and saying: “I have no idea why Tom is trying to destroy me with these lies.”
The FBI is also offering support to Philippine authorities in their investigation.
