Michael Fishman has responded to Roseanne Barr’s profanity-laced attack by thanking her for telling the truth, rather than answering her in kind.
The actor addressed Barr’s recent comments in a video shared on social media, referring to his decision to contact her in 2018 after she posted a racist tweet about Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.
Fishman said he had reached out to give Barr an opportunity to explain why she had published the post, while making clear that he vehemently disagreed with it.
He described the dispute as an example of something many people experience privately: watching a trusted and loved mentor or family member change significantly over time.
Fishman also said the latest confrontation offered a glimpse into a darker part of his childhood during the television series Roseanne, a period he rarely discusses but which he suggested may need to be addressed.
His response followed comments in which Barr criticised him for saying the Roseanne reboot was “rightfully canceled” after her 2018 tweet.
Barr called Fishman a “f***ing worm” and told him to “shut the f*** up” and “stay f***ed”. Fishman did not use a swear word in his reply.
