Mick Molloy has named Shania Twain and Gene Simmons as the two most difficult celebrity interviewees of his broadcasting career.
The Australian comedian revisited the encounters during Monday’s edition of Mick in the Morning on Triple M Melbourne, describing the exchange with Twain as his “worst experience” in radio.
Molloy recalled interviewing the country singer during his time presenting Martin Molloy alongside Tony Martin. He said Twain arrived at the studio with an entourage of about 12 people, who watched from around the room as the interview took place.
According to Molloy, the pair were handed a sheet of questions prepared by Twain’s publicist. However, when they put the questions to the singer, she allegedly challenged them by asking: “Why would you ask me that?”
He said the situation became so uncomfortable that he and Martin abandoned the planned interview and began asking deliberately silly questions instead.
“I walked out and said, ‘That is the worst experience I’ve ever had,’” Molloy recalled.
He also singled out KISS bassist and singer Gene Simmons, despite having admired the rock star when he was younger.
Describing the interview, Molloy said: “I’ve never taken an instant dislike to anyone in my life. He was telling you why you were wrong before you’d even said anything.”
The comments were made on Triple M Melbourne’s weekday breakfast programme, which is hosted by Molloy alongside Roo, Titus and Rosie.
