The San Diego Padres denied the Milwaukee Brewers a sweep with a 4-3 victory in Game 3 of the National League Division Series at Petco Park on Tuesday, keeping their season alive. Milwaukee still leads the best-of-five series 2-1.
The Padres established an early advantage for the third consecutive game, scoring twice in the third inning through Fernando Tatis Jr’s groundout and Manny Machado’s single.
William Contreras’ solo home run put the Brewers on the board in the fourth before Jackson Chourio’s sacrifice fly brought Milwaukee level in the following inning.
San Diego regained the lead when Jake Cronenworth homered off JoJo Romero in the bottom of the fifth. The Padres added an insurance run in the sixth after Xander Bogaerts scored on a throwing error.
Brewers close to levelling the game
Christian Yelich reduced the deficit with an RBI single in the seventh, his first postseason run batted in since 2018.
Milwaukee threatened again in the ninth, putting two runners on base, but Yelich hit into a double play to end the game.
Dustin May allowed two runs from three hits and two walks across three innings, striking out three. Romero was charged with the defeat after surrendering Cronenworth’s home run, while Antonio Senzatela, DL Hall and Abner Uribe also featured in relief.
The Brewers and Padres return to Petco Park on Wednesday, October 7, for Game 4. First pitch is scheduled for 9pm Central Time, with the game being shown on FS1 and FOX One.
